Dear Mr. Richards,

As Co-chair of the B.E.S.T Partnership working in conjunction with STOP Domestic Violence and STOP DWI, I would like to once again invite your school to participate in a very special event that supports teens in being alcohol-free and provides the whole family with fun and educational events that are focused on youth safety.  The C.A.R.E. Fair and B.E.S.T. Walk are combining events again this year to allow for maximum participation from our schools, agencies and communities.

On Saturday May 21st, from 10 AM – 2 PM the C.A.R.E. Fair and the B.E.S.T. Walk are planning a series of events at the Essex County Fairgrounds that will raise awareness among youth and adults in the community about the risks of underage drinking and impaired driving, as well as domestic violence, safety in our schools, cybercrimes and many other issues we face on a daily basis.  Various organizations and county departments will be providing a mix of resource tables, giveaways, challenge events, demonstrations and prizes to support safe and healthy choices for youth and their families.  There are many organizations eager to share with our residents the services they offer in all areas of personal and public safety.

We want to invite your students to participate in the B.E.S.T Walk (start time 10:30 AM). Bring school banners (we have extra banners) and wear school colors and team jackets.  Students are encouraged to work with their SADD advisors, Prevention Team counselors, educators or school staff to produce a song, a skit, an activity, or a display for the “Teen Tent”, an area set aside for teen gathering, teen projects and activities.  We will also be recruiting student volunteers to provide assistance in a number of areas, including the registration table, the bike rodeo and activities for the younger children. Last year we had a lot of help from students and hope the same for this year.

Once again, your support in advertising this event to your school staff, students and parents by using your e-mail and print communication channels is very much requested and appreciated. We can provide you with any additional PR materials you may need to effectuate this dissemination of information.

We will be sending out additional information very soon, including reply forms and some specific suggestions for student projects.  In the meantime, should you need additional information, please feel free to contact me directly or contact Michael Mascarenas at mmascarenas@co.essex.ny.usor call 873-3426.

Thank you for your continuing commitment in keeping our youth healthy and safe.  With your help, we look forward to another very successful C.A.R.E. Fair/ B.E.S.T. Walk event!

Sincerely,

Kristy L. Sprague

Essex County District Attorney

Tuesday, November 23, 2010,  is Emergency Preparedness Day for Lake Placid Central School's students. It is also the last day of school before Thanksgiving Break.

All students in the middle/high school will be dismissed at 9:50 a.m. and the elementary school will be dismissed at 10:30 a.m. This will give parents an opportunity to practice making arrangements for the care of their children during the normal school day in the event that there would be an emergency and the school would have to dismiss early.

School districts are required by New York State to hold Emergency preparedness drill so that parents, staff and students can develop a contingency plan.

Dear Parents,

At around 7:00 a.m., we were informed of an interesting set of
circumstances.  Staff members traveling from Saranac Lake and from
Wilmington were delayed due to two separate car accidents.  As a
result, we were not able to start the school day fully staffed.  We
had the students report to the gym and then they were re-distributed
to classes by grade level. By 8:15 a.m. we began a modified morning
schedule.  By 10:33 a.m. we will  be back on our regular schedule. The
staff responded in a professional manner and the crisis turned out to
be a minor blip.

The Sophomore Career Immersion event was postponed for two weeks.  It
has been rescheduled for November 19th.
