Advanced Placement United States History (APUSH) 2012-'13
APUSH is a demanding course. It is the equivalent of a first-year college level course that if successfully completed can earn students college credit. APUSH requires that students read and write extensively.
APUSH covers from 30,000 years ago, when the first Americans alledgedly arrived in the New World to present-day. In order for students to succeed in APUSH they will be called upon to be active, independent learners. Students will need to master the following:
- master a broad body of historical knowledge
- demonstrate an understanding of historical chronology
- use historical information to support an argument
- interpret and apply data from a variety of historical documents
- use analytical skills to show cause and effect relationships
- write essays with precision by supporting a well-developed thesis
- apply different historical schools of thought in arguments
8th Graders at Middlebury College
The class toured the campus, talked about school with Middlebury students, ate lunch and listened to a Middlebury admissions director. It was a great day! (October 22, 2011)
8th Grade Social Studies - 2012-'13
8th grade social studies is a continuation of 7th grade. Chronologically, 7th grade covered the finding of America through the 1830's. 8th grade social studies will cover from the 1830's to present-day. Major areas of study will include:
- Westward Expansion
- Causes of the Civil War
- The Civil War
- Reconstruction
- Industrial America
- World War I
- The 20's the Great Depression
- World War II
- The Cold War
- The Civil Rights Movement
