New iPads for Foreign Language
A grant from the Adirondack Community Trust has made 4 iPads available for student use in the Library Media Center. The 4 iPads will be loaded with Spanish and French materials. Students will be able to access and use the iPads to review, practice and improve their Spanish and French.
The iPads are for use only in the LIbrary Media Center and are for Foreign Language use only. Students have access to the iPads both during the school day and after school during the open hours sponsored by the CYC.
Mr. Carlson currently has extra credit assignments for students.
- Spanish 6-Using the Camera App, 6th Grade students are to record themselves counting to 15 in Spanish and say the 7 days of the week in Spanish.
- Spanish 7-Using the Camera App, students are to record a short intro about themselves including their name, their age, where they are from and what they like. Students may write their scripts and practice them before hand.

Courses taught:
6th Grade Spanish-half year every other day
7th Grade Spanish-Full Year
8th Grade Spanish- Full Year
Spanish I-Full Year
Successful completion of 7th & 8th Grade Spanish qualify students for High School credit for Spanish I and allow them to enter Spanish II in 9th Grade.
Objective: Students will learn the basic foundations of the Spanish language over the course of two years. Students will explore the history and culture of Spanish speaking countries throughout the world. A wide variety of sources and materials will guide each student to a beginning level of expression in Spanish. The class will develop the students’ understanding and tolerance of new cultures and will focus on the four core areas of language acquisition (speaking, listening, reading, and writing).

I am in my 18th year of teaching at Lake Placid Central Schools. After graduating Parishville-Hopkinton Central School, I attended Adirondack Community College where I received my Associate's Degree. I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish and a minor in French from SUNY College at Cortland after studying abroad in Madrid, Spain and Tours, France.
I have been teaching in Lake Placid since 1995 where I live with my wife and four children.
